Weight Loss and Getting the Facts Right

Written by Harriet Diamond

hd blog image 1-2010This is the start of my series to challenge your perspective about eating.

I’ve been studying for years, the way, what, and why people eat. I’ve realized the most important fact-people love to eat. I just received an email with this quote when I asked about her vitamin intake. “My motto, Life is good and so is food."

It is time to connect with this fact. The only reliable way to lose weight permanently is either to eat less or exercise more. Doing both is right on! Think about this. Do you set yourself up with a very big full plate of food or do you place a moderate amount on your plate and see if you are still hungry for seconds? It’s all about our mindset and the habits we develop.

Our choices for good health and vitality.

What do we really know? Health challenges encourage us to find the right answers. Knowledge helps us make better decisions.

Mom who was 97 went in for knee surgery after a fall two months ago. She did well after the first few days but then complications took over. Of course age and healing are correlated and make a difference but also; maybe we need to make different choices about choosing surgery.

I found this article interesting this morning so I thought I’d give you some research here.

Results of new research reported - brain fitness and exercise

More brain power and exercise connections

I keep reading more about how simple exercise and activity helps our brains. It seems we are getting the 'specifics' but the underlying concepts are solid - keeping active helps achieve increased brain performance. How much and what are the concern of the specific research. In all studies positive results are reported. So it’s simple – get up and get moving!

New Year's Day 2010

Written by Harriet Diamond

“Everything that can be measured can be managed”

A new year has started and I know that the health clubs are filling up with new members, and the old members are saying to themselves they need to be consistent, and make the resolution to get there a few times a week. At Nutrisystem, after the holidays was our busiest time.

Not an easy goal for any of us. We have lots going on in our lives and though we want to succeed with fitness, somehow, it is time consuming and takes awhile to show results.

I’ve joined clubs over the years but found that for me, I need to have equipment at home and then be disciplined and motivated to use it. My treadmill, Fit 10 product, and nutrient, ReNew, helps me manage my weight and feel energized. Also, I feel like I am taking care of Harriet’s needs. I don’t want to live to be in my 90’s like my Mom, if I’m not fit.

What’s Age Got to Do With It?, a book we sell, has inspired me to be dedicated to fitness for the last 14 years.

But take a read at this article by Azita Arvani, in our latest Fitness News or read the article here - Women’s Entrepreneur, and maybe with a couple of apps, you will have more fun and find your exercise program more enjoyable.

I sure hope so. The bottom line, without exercise your health will suffer. It’s a fact.

Activity is a key to health

Get active - A little exercise is critical!

Today's New York Times has an excellent article about 'long term life style' fitness program - "How Little Exercise Can You Get Away With?"

Read the entire article - but here is a sound bite that is a good summary!

"Inactivity is looking more and more like one of the underlying causes of many chronic diseases,” he says. If, he adds, “you want to live to be 100,” which happens to be my New Year’s resolution, “then don’t just sit all day.”

It's great to join the gym, walk 5 miles a day or play 2 hours of tennis but just getting up off the couch or from behind your desk will help a great deal!

I’m wishing you a Healthy and Joyful New Year 2010

Written by Harriet Diamond

harriet and wooden friendFor years I’ve practiced the art of journaling especially at the end of the year.

Anytime is a perfect time for reflection but I enjoy doing a review of what has
happened in the past year and then I write a new list of what I want to happen for the coming year.

Do we have the ability to create what we want in our new year or are we just going to be in the reaction mode? I believe we can definitely get what we want if we take a look at our values and take action on what’s important to us.

Of course you already know my number one value. Health absolutely. Without it all our wishes and dreams have serious limits. At one time I believed my number one value was love, but then I realized that I couldn’t show my love , or do what I love if I lacked a healthy mind & body.

My suggestion for all of you. An easy way to get started. Write on a piece of paper the following categories. Mentally, Physically, Attractiveness, Emotionally, Relationships, Living Environment, Socially, Spiritually, Career, & Financially. These are the categories I’ve used for the last 20 years. (I went to a weekend with Tony Robbins called Date with Destiny) Give each one a number of where you are at today (1 being low and 10 being high) and where you want to show improvement for next year.  Then I ask myself in each category what actions I take to get there.

It’s amazing how this works for me and I hope it will give you a little insight too.

My love and passion is to help you get to where you want to be.  If you think health is important to you and your business too, you came to the right place for
support.
