Holiday Wishes

Written by Harriet Diamond

A happy and youthful season to all!

Thanksgiving has always been my favorite time of the year because it’s all about gratitude. I like to get together with family and friends.

Saturday night was fun dining with friends. Someone asked how I found this place to live. It’s hard to believe that I started in NY, 3000 miles away, and when I stepped foot in my town, I knew I had truly come home. I still feel that way. I love seeing lots of land and trees around me. This morning there were 10 wild turkeys hanging out and lots of deer too. They are probably having a meeting about how to hide during this season. Actually, if they stay right here, they will be fine.

We’re planning to travel to LA to see my children in a couple of days. That’s always a fun time for me. I get to see and play with my grandchildren, Sterling, Stryker, Maverick and Legend. (great names-great boys), my sons, Andrew and Duke and my new daughters, Dayna and Dawn.

There’s always great food, terrific movies (a fabulous home theatre room) and time for us entrepreneurs, to talk about our businesses.

So bottom line-I’m in gratitude and wish everyone a healthy, happy, and safe holiday too.

Got a problem? Take a nap!

Written by Rick Maltin

Sleep benefits for business productivity

I just read some interesting tidbits this week with hints about additions to our youthing lifestyle…I have a few and will do one a day until they are complete – they come from the current issue of Southwest Spirit…

Dream On – Sleeping on the job? No worries! a new study at the University of California San Diego show that napping (one of my favorites) may be one of the best ways to solve problems. Research suggests REM sleep might strengthen ‘associative networks’ in the brain that could lead to a spike in creativity.

This is added evidence of the benefits of a good night’s sleep.

In addition if you are stuck with a problem – close your eyes and nap for 15 minutes, get up and solve the problem!

Expectations for Looking and Feeling Youthful

Written by Harriet Diamond

Disney offers refunds for Baby Einstein DVDs

Leah Zanolla from Alltop .The company has been challenged regarding how educational the videos actually are for children.

Well, I listened to this news broadcast yesterday that talked about parents positive expectations to these” Learning videos” and realized this is very similar to all the hype of antiaging creams and the advertisement I saw claiming that using this will make you look 30 when you wake up in the morning even if today you are 50. I laughed but it bothered me so much that I emailed the company with that advertisement and told them I wanted to read the research papers that supported this. It was an email from a Doctor that I had admired.  But this was all bogus. Two weeks later, in answer to my inquiry, I received a note back but was unable to see the research findings and the study results.

Do we need to have expectations that using a skin cream will make us look younger?

Does it have to happen in a week or two? Or maybe just using excellent well tested  products and following a youthful routine will create real results from the inside out too.  Our skin products will help you achieve better and prettier skin because their natural and filled with nourishing ingredients, but not overnight! Please, let’s get over this” I want it tomorrow syndrome”. Haven’t we had enough of hype?

Age and Calendar - Ask Youthing Girl

Written by Harriet Diamond

Youthing Girl says thinking about getting older?

40 is the new 30 and 60 is the new 50? What is all this about? It is trying to say that we are changing the way we view ourselves as years are adding on.
What’s the calendar vs. biological age?

Calendar age is the number in relationship to when we were born. This mindset leads to lots of negativity, like the senior moment, flexibility diminished, brain ability going etc. It’s bad programming to think this way.

In contrast, biological age is the health and integrity of your body and its various organs and tissues. Who do you know who looks and feels 20 or more years younger than their calendar age? Why is that? These people have a strong mindset of self-determination focused on their taking responsibility for the things in their lives. They enjoy life and make good choices about what they eat and the exercises they do. They care about something more than themselves.  Don’t you feel happy being around these people? You come away with an up, light feeling, which I feel is the joy of feeling alive. It’s in the genes? Well, that’s another topic for another day. Be well.

And don't forget you can have a 30 year old brain (Read This!) in a 60 year old body

Use your brain to help your body

Thinking good thoughts leads to better health

A Special Health Report from the experts at Harvard Medical School

Being a psychology graduate, I’m excited to see this report from Harvard. I believe that happy, more positive thoughts truly elevate our internal systems and ward off potential ailments. I would like to read a good study with a big sampling that would support this idea. But in the interim, even with elders, we find that the happier personality, people who are involved, participate, and give to others feel better and have longer lives. Proof, give me awhile and I’m still researching that. But I’m happy thinking this. The report follows. More will find their way here.

“Positive emotions have been linked with better health, longer life and greater well being in numerous scientific studies. On the other hand, chronic anger, worry, and hostility increase the risk of developing high blood pressure and heart disease. A Harvard School of Public Health survey found that people who are generally hopeful were less likely to develop hypertension, diabetes or respiratory tract infections than those who were less hopeful or expressed more negative emotion. The concepts of positive psychology can have a favorable impact not only on the psyche, but on the body as well.”

Holiday Eating Success

Holiday Eating, Youthing and Feeling Great!

Years ago I was a NutriSystem consultant. I vividly remember the holidays soon to be upon us and the anxiety of losing weight before they started so when the holiday parties began there was some room on the belt buckle that could be released. But then it was holiday time and what to eat at the buffets and dinner parties became most important in everyone’s mind.

Well I’m a believer that we don’t have to deny ourselves or be depressed about what to eat. I truly doubt that unless you go to health restaurants there is going to be lots of tasty treats filled with calories, carbs, and fats.(and not the good ones either!). But life is about youthing and feeling good and happy and so what’s it all about?
