Let’s Talk Basics Today
Some people ask why take vitamins? My answer to that is our food consumption often doesn’t give us the amount of nutrients to cover our basic needs. That’s why I call them supplements. They are essential for our bodies to grow, are utilized by our digestive system. Very simply I want to tell you what the basic vitamin does and what foods you will find it in.
Vitamin A helps promote healthy eye function especially at night, keeps skin, hair and nails healthy. They are normally found in green, yellow or orange vegetables, cantaloupe, apricots, & sweet potatoes.
B Vitamins helps our bodies metabolize, making protein and energy, form red blood cells and promote proper nerve function. They are found in foods ranging from bananas, meats, poultry, fish, potatoes, green leafy vegetables, cereals & grains, milk and eggs.
Vitamin C promotes healing of cuts and wounds, and also helps to resist infection. It helps keeps gums healthy, which is very important as we age. They are usually found in citrus fruits, strawberries, cantaloupe, peppers & broccoli. I’ve recommended taking a mega dose of C when you are feeling like you are getting sick.
Vitamin D helps keep our bones strong and is involved in muscle contractions & nerve function. And of course Vitamin D is found in milk & milk products, tofu & broccoli. But in the last few months there has been a lot of discussion that we need much more Vitamin D then you would normally find in vitamin jars.
Vitamin E helps form red blood cells, muscles, tissues. There is lots of talk and research about antioxidants. They are found in seeds and nuts, seafood, eggs & oils
There is so much to add to each one of the vitamins above but this is a quick review for some and a first step of knowledge for others. Also I will talk later about tese vitamins in relationship to staying youthful, and feeling energized.
