Harriet's Youthing Blog
I am excited about this blog so I can get to talk to you about health, youthfulness (youthing) and well being.
In addition to our essential topics brain health, skin care, fitness, and nutrition, there are important things to share about our perspective, (how we view our lives), insights (from the experiences we have), relationships (people in our lives) and achievements (what is success).
All of these areas impact our health, well being and vitality! ![]()

Nutrition - It's a business?
Written by Harriet Diamond
Continuous developments in the nutrition industry-what does a person do?
When do we know we are taking enough of any supplement for our best health needs?
For the last 35 years that I have been health conscious, there are always new findings that some nutrient no longer works or is safe. New herbs, antioxidants, and different findings, like reservatrol, have been added to must haves list for better health.
Also I have shared that many nutritional supplements from companies that are respected by many, when analyzed in the labs, have come up short in comparing what’s in the bottle to what’s on the label. So the main reasons I’ve researched and carry the products that I do are by far the best and are true to our expectation. Most important, if you look at Mind and Body Tonic, you will find that it already has a high potency of Vitamin D and from the right source.
You can be more confident in the buying process when you are buying products that begin with whole foods. That’s a good first step in the right direction.
Health and Business

Going to extremes in health and business.
Well, this is a first! I’ve worked with nutrition companies, weight loss companies and helped people with diet therapy, but this is a new word – Orthorexia (read more). Being on a stringent regimen-maybe raw food or vegetarian, just protein, fruit only, and not allowing for anything else.
That is intriguing. And yet I know people who really have this disorder. Sometimes we find ourselves wanting to be so perfect that mental barriers and limiting beliefs come up which actually keep us in a negative state.
I call this swinging of the pendulum in an unbalanced state of mind. You’ve experience this many times yourself in business. You don’t want to work on that project because you need to have more time set aside. So you don’t do it. You need to have more sales before you hire someone who will get you more sales.
You want to buy a new wardrobe but you deny yourself because your body still needs to lose weigh. So you stay in the same clothes that don’t really reflect how you feel.
There are people I know that didn’t want to get married because they needed to save up for the furniture to buy first.
I’ve explained in an earlier blog that the healthy way of eating is to eat in moderation. Denying yourself ruins your delight in living the day and does it really get you to your goal? And do you stay at that goal or do you bounce back to step one again? We need to be mindful in what choices we make.
Think about it. Let me know what is stopping you from doing what you want to do. Let’s change the perspective!
A little movement yields great results

Simple 'Activity' for Fitness and Health
For some people thinking about exercise seems to stop you in your tracks and be an overwhelming task. For years the only “formal activity” I did was the treadmill for 30 minutes a day everyday. I did it to dance music which made me feel happy. But what if, we are not able to set a designated time to do exercise. Then I say, Change your Mindset and think Movement.
Make this your new question: How can I MOVE more during your day?
Do you work in your office? I do. So for example how many times do I get up from my chair? How far do I walk to get something to drink? How many times? Maybe adding more routines and a longer path to what you need to get will add some significant steps to your day.
Ask yourself? What movement can I do from my chair?
When you go food shopping? It’s old advice but to do you park close to the store or far so you will be able to walk more?
That delicious feeling when you get into your bed after a long day. Can you do two leg raises while lying down and also in the morning when you wake up?
Please add to this list. We all need to move more and little activities will add up.
Dr. Andrew Weil talks about this and it makes sense to me. Make regular, moderate exercise part of your healthy lifestyle routine. Physical activity is good for the body, mind and spirit, helps maintain and improve the health of your heart, reduces the risk of diseases such as diabetes and Alzheimer’s, promotes energy, quality rest and a healthy weight, helps manage unhealthy stress, and can address symptoms of mild to moderate depression. I say WOW to all of this.
Let’s get started having the healthy habits we want and get rid of others that “weigh” us down!

A weight loss lifestyle!
People need to stop thinking of weight loss and start something for a new lifestyle with new habits. Games are fun and working with others does help for a commitment but what about making a list of all the foods you love and see how you can put them into a plan of healthy eating. If your meals were smaller, your snacks just one a day and your energy was higher for doing more movement, you would definitely lose. I really think that sometimes we eat too much because we’re hungry for other things, like better relationships or more sex, or better business. Then, we are just really eating our feelings.
So I would sit down and try to figure out what could really work for all of you for your future, not just for the year. We’ve all lost weight with some diet and then gained it back again. Discovering yourself is a good step too.
Weight Loss and Getting the Facts Right
Written by Harriet Diamond
This is the start of my series to challenge your perspective about eating.
I’ve been studying for years, the way, what, and why people eat. I’ve realized the most important fact-people love to eat. I just received an email with this quote when I asked about her vitamin intake. “My motto, Life is good and so is food."
It is time to connect with this fact. The only reliable way to lose weight permanently is either to eat less or exercise more. Doing both is right on! Think about this. Do you set yourself up with a very big full plate of food or do you place a moderate amount on your plate and see if you are still hungry for seconds? It’s all about our mindset and the habits we develop.

Our choices for good health and vitality.
What do we really know? Health challenges encourage us to find the right answers. Knowledge helps us make better decisions.
Mom who was 97 went in for knee surgery after a fall two months ago. She did well after the first few days but then complications took over. Of course age and healing are correlated and make a difference but also; maybe we need to make different choices about choosing surgery.
I found this article interesting this morning so I thought I’d give you some research here.
