A little brain music
Written by Rick Maltin
I am making progress in my brain research and reading. This week I read The Scientific American ‘Day in the Life of Your Brain” by Judith Horstman. It is a good read, simple, non technical and very interesting. It does offer understandable explanations for a lot of brain activity we take for granted. For example, I liked the to discussion of brain activity on waking up (our internal alarm clocks). There are three different brain strategies for waking up – alarm (saber tooth tiger near), gentle (dark become light) and programmed (alarm clock). Each triggers a different ‘cocktail’ of brain chemicals. The book also gives a chemical analysis of the Owl versus Lark question.
