Hold Me Tight
Jane's Review
This insightful book, based on Dr. Johnson's years as a couple's therapist offers a new way to look at our emotional well-being. It's all about natural core longings and emotion.
Isn't everything based on emotions? Emotionally focused therapy seems so obvious when explained by Dr. Johnson.
She takes us into her practice where she recognized that what we want is a safe emotional connection, a reliable bond of comfort. As much as, or maybe even more than good sex or intellectual compatibility - we want someone who "Holds Us Tight", someone who has our back. It is our very nature to want that in our lives.
Dr. Johnson's well-written book offers exercises to work examples to look at, questionnaires and case studies of people who are us. Whether a couple partnership or a friendship - this information applies and can be utilized by everyone wanting to connect in an emotionally healthy way.
What do you want in relationships of any kind? Someone or several someones to "Hold You Tight?"
In a world of increasing social isolation a couple becomes a "community of two". We are one another's bulwark - the one we rely on emotionally.
It is important in this emotional healing and relationship tending, that we remain open and vulnerable. Ask "Can I reach you?" Much of relationship problems in couples or friends come from the fear that we will be abandoned and we "protest against disconnection".
That protest may have a pattern where one partner begins to demand, maybe yell, trying to get the other's attention. The other turns away, shuts down, won't talk. It may get louder. It certainly gets sadder. We shut down. We feel abandoned. Such a familiar dance.
"Hold Me Tight" offers more than hope, it offers a way out, a clear and proven way to heal..
Dr. Johnson's book is well worth owning - and applying. Dr. Johnson deserves our attention with her 75% success rate in the field of relationship therapy.
I recommended this book to any of you who 'counsel' in any form and all who are willing to change the dynamic of any relationship. Everyone can benefit from the common sense in "Hold Me Tight".
"HMT" makes this reviewer wish to have had this kind of wisdom long ago.
Dr Johnson:
"Love is everything and worth risking everything for" "Love heals wounds" "Love is the compass of civilized society"
